Sergeant Kenneth Bartlett Gibson was born on 1 August 1983, in Christiansburg, Virginia. A graduate from Christiansburg High in 2001, Kenneth enjoyed country music, baseball, football, golf, video games, and watching King of Queens.

Upon completion of One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, SGT Gibson graduated from the United States Army Airborne School before assignment to 3rd Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, in October of 2002. During his time in 3rd Platoon, Kenneth served as a Rifleman, Automatic Rifleman, Stryker Infantry Assault Vehicle Commander, and Fire Team Leader. SGT Gibson graduated from the Warrior Leaders Course in 2007. SGT Gibson served his country admirably during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-2005), Operation Enduring Freedom-Philippines (2006), and Operation Iraqi Freedom II (2007-2008).

SGT Gibson’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Presidential Unit Citation Award, Army Valorous Unit Award, Army Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.

SGT Gibson is survived by his wife, Nikki Marie Gibson, his father and mother, Robert Bartlett Gibson and Athena Gillie Gibson.
